14 JAN BEHIND THE SCENES: DELIVERY TO AUNT MARTHA’S
In September this year, we were hunkered down in a workshop in Connecticut, sanding wood, tying ribbons, assembling perfect boxes, about to make one of the most exciting deliveries of our little career. Except when Real Weddings editor of Martha Stewart Weddings Shira Savada tells you the welcome gift hand delivery is to “Aunt Martha’s” home, you play it totally cool and act like you’ve been there before, right? Right. This is a quick behind the scenes recap of the time we delivered to “Aunt Martha’s”.
Half of our team was already in NY on delivery for a wedding the week prior in the Adirondack Mountains (talk about geographical serendipity), so we decided to rendezvous in NYC to pick up our rental car (read: cinnamon red minivan) before road tripping it to beautiful Sherman, CT, our workshop location for the next few days.
We’re so fortunate to have generous friends who kindly opened their home to us in Sherman, CT, completely outfitted with our own workspace with several long assembly tables, perfect for the job at hand. We spend most of each day and a couple long evenings assembling Kristina & Barrett’s welcome gifts in here.
We loaded up and departed for our delivery destination, Martha Stewart’s home in Katonah, NY, conveniently located just about 30 minutes from our “home away from home” that week.
After we made our way into the property, we drove down this pea gravel road to the wedding venue site….the most beautiful barn we’ve ever seen. We were directed by a staff member to drop our gifts at the barn, where the wedding planners, the talented ladies of The Nouveau Romantics, would later pick them up to distribute to Kristina and Barrett’s wedding guests. We drove our cinnamon red minivan back into the city to spend the evening celebrating the completed project, smiling because if Shira ever asks us to deliver to “Aunt Martha’s” again, we can absolutely act like we’ve been there before.
